Lawson’s Dry Hills Gewürztraminer 2009 - Marlborough, NZ
Well this is a very interesting wine. I’m genuinely on the fence with this one. It’s a wine I’m familiar with but hadn’t actually tried until now.
The fact that this wine is off-dry appeals to me. I like that in my aromatic wines. I get a bit lost however with the taste. Whilst I get the lychees and tropical fruit flavours it’s a little shallow in taste for me. I found myself wanting it to be a little fuller. It also reminded me of soap a little bit (no, it wasn’t the glasses)…..
The taste itself was long but it just wasn’t quite the taste I was after. After every mouthful however I kept finding myself swaying between really liking it and not being quite sure.
It certainly kept me on my toes. That’s certainly better than a bland wine for me any day!
