Klein Constantia Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

There’s something very romantic about buying a bottle from the cellar door. Having just had a wonderful tour with Lowell Jooste (the MD of KC whose family recently sold the Estate) we did some tasting and this stood out as being good value.

This cost R150 from the cellar door, around £14 but it certainly drinks like a more expensive wine. It’s very elegant with the right combination of earthy and fruity notes with a slight smattering of oak very subtly running through the wine. I don’t think you get wines of this class at this price point from Bordeaux.

So far this is easily one of the better reds I’ve tried on the trip. I also highly recommend a trip to Klein Constantia. It’s a beautiful vineyard which climbs up into the clouds at its highest point with stunning views of the Constantia region.
