Chateau Chasse Spleen 1985

A lovely deep red wine with brown hues. The nose is still powerful and the taste is still very expressive. There are also strong tobacco and coffee notes. It has retained some good dark fruit flavours. There’s also a definite smattering of liquorice.

The nose is actually quite earthy with a brooding sense to it. It certainly makes you want to take a sip. It’s very inviting. With about 2 hours in the decanter this really opened up and would seem to have a little life left yet.

I always find myself thinking about how reassuring screwcaps are when I open a wine of this age and find that it isn’t corked. I would of course miss the feeling of triumph when that first smell of a freshly uncorked bottle confirms that she is alive and well! I think I remain officially on the fence on the issue.

Anyway, I digress, this is an awesome Bordeaux which really delivered as the centre piece of our meal.
